“Unravelling the Mystery of Pet Food Lables!” was a presentation given by Clare Hemmings at BVRA Congress 2024.
Clare qualified as a Veterinary nurse in 1995 and although she is no longer on the register, she likes to keep up to date. Clare also won Pet Health Counsellor of the Year for her work with arthritic patients in 2001, before joining Royal Canin in 2004.
The pet food industry is vast and growing, with many new products entering the market every week.
But how can you tell whether they are suitable for pets, whether they are fully balanced and safe? What do terms such as ‘meat and animal derivatives’ mean? And is it important to have a high percentage of meat?
Pet food comparison sites often rate foods based on criteria such as marketing terms that irrelevant to the pet and give no indication about the quality of a diet. In this session Clare will sort the marketing speak from the useful information to help you educate your clients on how pet foods should really be rated.
