AVACA Bronze level of the Veterinary Animal Care Assistant Award

This course is the first of 3 levels of the Veterinary Animal Care Assistant award (VACA). The Bronze level is designed for those aspiring towards a career as an ACA/VCA/ANA/VNA and need a starting point into the role, or for those who are already employed in veterinary practice in this role and wish to develop their knowledge and skills. This course would also be beneficial to veterinary receptionists wishing to transfer into an animal care role. 

The course will cover topics such as the principles of healthcare, animal husbandry and handling, veterinary terminology and organ systems. 

This course is delivered as a series of short webinars and each webinar is followed by multiple choice questions in which students can test their understanding of the teaching provided. 

The Bronze level of the Veterinary Animal Care Assistant award will cover: 

Module 1 - Introduction to animal husbandry; principles of animal healthcare, species, breeds, conformational awareness and vital signs.

Module 2 - Animals handling; basic restraint techniques for cats and dogs.

Module 3 - Basic veterinary terminology, anatomy and physiology; understanding veterinary words, directional terms and basic overviews of the core organ systems.
