The Dispensing Journey has been designed to provide veterinary receptionists with a comprehensive understanding of how to safely dispense veterinary medicines following set procedures and practice protocols.  The learner will understand the regulations surrounding veterinary medicines in the UK, how to safely handle, store and dispense medicines as well as the terminology used.  They will learn the different classifications of medicines and who can prescribe them, as well as understand the importance of the stock take.

The Dispensing Journey will cover the following 5 stages:

  • Stage 1 – Receiving a Prescription Order and Medicine Classifications.
  • Stage 2 – Medication Review.
  • Stage 3 – The Prescription including CMA 2026 updates
  • Stage 4 – Dispensing, Legal Considerations, Safe Handling, and the Cascade.
  • Stage 5 – Protocols When Handing Over Medication to the Client.

At the end of this course the learner will have the knowledge and competence required to handle, store and dispense veterinary medication effectively and safely.

You can also go back over the courses as often as required. All our courses are either in written or video format or a combination of both. Videos are available with closed captions.

Course lengths vary depending on the subject. Most of the BVRA membership training courses are no more than an hour in length. Some of the more in-depth training courses, such as the BVRA Intermediate course, may take several hours to complete.

Yes. On successful completion of any of our courses, you will be able to download a BVRA Certificate of Completion, which can contribute to your Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
